Bitmine’s Ethereum Treasury Keeps Growing. The Per-Share Math Is the Test
Bitmine reported 5.98 million ETH and $17.1 billion of combined holdings. The figures matter, but so do ETH prices, staking results, share issuance, and preferred claims.

A run of Bitmine Immersion Technologies headlines on Moomoo tells two stories at once. The company is still accumulating Ethereum, while a B. Riley note reported by Moomoo raised its BMNR price target from $30 to $34 and kept a Buy rating. Separately, Moomoo recorded 227,090 BMNR options contracts traded on September 25. The target is an analyst opinion, and options volume shows activity rather than the direction of the next share-price move.
The firmer starting point is Bitmine’s latest company holdings update, released September 21. As of the evening of September 20, Bitmine said it held 5,983,940 ETH, 212 bitcoin, $714 million in cash and marketable securities, and investments it calls “moonshots” valued at $285 million in total. Using an ETH price of $2,688, it put its combined crypto, cash, securities, and other investment holdings at $17.1 billion. Bitmine’s investor-relations page lists this as its most recent holdings release as of this article’s date.

More ETH does not automatically mean more value per share
Bitmine said it bought another 27,562 ETH during the prior week and estimated that its holdings represented 4.9% of the network’s 122.1 million ETH supply. That is a meaningful increase in tokens. But the $17.1 billion figure is a marked total of assets, including investments that are not ETH. It does not subtract obligations or tell a common shareholder what each share owns.
The share count matters. Bitmine’s latest quarterly filing reported 603.2 million common shares outstanding as of July 9, 2026. It also reported selling 340.7 million common shares through an at-the-market offering during the nine months ended May 31. That issuance brought in capital, but it spread the company’s assets across more shares. The July share count is dated and should not be used as a current denominator without an update. Bitmine also sold 3.5 million Series A preferred shares in June, with an initial $100 per-share liquidation preference; preferred holders have a claim ahead of common shareholders.
A more useful question than “How many ETH does Bitmine own?” is whether ETH and other assets per common share improve after financing costs and senior claims. The company’s holdings release alone cannot answer that question.
How Bitmine stakes ETH
On Ethereum, staking means committing ETH to the network so validators can check transactions and help add blocks. Validators earn variable ETH rewards for following the rules and staying online. Downtime can reduce rewards; serious rule violations can lead to “slashing,” or loss of some staked ETH. It is network validation, not interest paid by a bank.
Where does Bitmine do it? Its September 21 update says a portion of its ETH is staked through MAVAN, the validator platform it built after acquiring Pier Two, and refers to MAVAN and staking partners. It does not divide the 5.07 million staked ETH between them. Bitmine’s quarterly filing describes Pier Two’s infrastructure as non-custodial and Bitmine as a principal node operator. A September 8 filing says Ethereum Tower’s operating-management agreement ended and its affiliate American Validator LLC began providing advisory services. These disclosures do not identify every staking partner or custodian, who holds the withdrawal keys for each portion, or where the validator machines are located.
Bitmine said 5,067,309 ETH, roughly 85% of its holdings, were staked as of September 20. Management projected about $357 million of annualized staking revenue by applying a seven-day 2.62% annualized yield to the current staking base. The larger $421 million figure in the release assumes all its ETH is staked. Both are run-rate estimates, not revenue already earned or a guaranteed yield. Actual results will depend on network rewards, ETH’s price, fees, and how its staking systems perform.
How much ETH was staked?
Of 5,983,940 ETH held on September 20, Bitmine reported 5,067,309 ETH staked.

Staking rewards come with risks
Bitmine’s filing warns that downtime can cut rewards and rule-breaking validators can be slashed. It also flags smart-contract vulnerabilities where such mechanisms are used, plus failures at custodians or infrastructure partners that can put assets at risk. Exiting a stake can take an unpredictable time, leaving ETH unavailable for sale during a price drop. Rewards also vary with network conditions and validator uptime, while their dollar value moves with ETH’s price. This risk is concentrated: staking and validation supplied $45.7 million, or 98%, of Bitmine’s revenue in the quarter ended May 31. Future results need to show realized rewards and costs, not just an annualized projection.
ETH price still dominates the picture
At nearly 5.98 million tokens, a $100 change in ETH’s price would change the marked value of that holding by about $598 million, before any other changes. That is simple arithmetic, not a forecast for BMNR shares. The September 20 snapshot will move with ETH, and Bitmine’s other investments can change in value too. A higher analyst target or busy options tape cannot remove that exposure.
The next useful disclosures are an updated common-share count, ETH held and staked per share, realized staking economics, and the effect of any new financing. Together, they will show whether the expanding treasury is improving the position of a common shareholder, rather than only increasing the headline asset total.
